Around the fall 2001, Yeopgijeogin geunyeo (My Sassy Girl) was released in Korea and became the one of the best films with five stars. I still remember the word, sassy, was the most popular word ever. Who would would have thought that this sort of weird word could be used in everywhere in Korea.
An American remake of the original version late summer 2008. The film was not popular in Korea. There is nothing much different except nationality of the films but there was a huge gap in popularity of the films in Korea.
Take a look how similar they are. I would like to point out the same scenes from the two films.
A scene of playing piano and giving a rose- even piano music was the same
There are many exactly the same scenes including the reason for escaping from the class, the heroine slapping her boyfriend’s left and right cheeks on the subway, playing squash, Kendo, piano with giving a rose, letters in a time capsule and reason for the reunion.
Here are the best scenes that I have compared. I have checked the entire movies for 1 hour 53 min. and 33 sec. Look how close they are even in the lines.

Take a look at the distance between the two people. Koreans are sitting side by side just like old friends but Americans aren’t.
It shows the cultural difference between two countries.
